One win each

The Sharks did an awesome finish for the win in game one. Four runs in bottom ninth for the walk off win 6-7. The second game was casted live play by play which you may have noticed through posts here on http://hajarna.se

Curtis Dionne was finally back in Sweden and joined the team once again! The Sharks was kind enough to let him follow his assignment with his employer SKF across the pond which eventually earned him a title playing for the Philadelphia comets. Just seeing Curtis face raised the morale of the scattered defense of the Sharks. Curtis position which is defined to UTIL on at least two continents filled the short stop position when not closing the first game as pitcher.

The second game was a tight until sixth inning where both starting pitchers went deep into the pitch count. When relievers entered the game, the game turned in favor for the visitors. Although the Sharks gave themselves opportunities throughout basically every inning but they failed to capitalize on them. However the previous Achilles of the Sharks, the defense stepped up several levels today. The Sharks came up short for the second game, but they fought hard and everyone stood up for Kerry this time. Kerry went 130+ pitches and played the entire game. After pitching seven innings he took over first base and also had an at bat. The second game was lost 6-3.

Alby took on Sundbyberg today. The visitors Sundbyberg won game one 2-16 (7), but failed to take the momentum into game two where Alby managed to walk off with a 7-6 victory.

Stockholm taught Karlskoga Bats a lesson in game one not letting a single run and scoring nine. The second game got really close. It took until the eleventh inning to produce a winner and Stockholm drew the shortest straw.

The Sharks stepped up several levels in their defense today! Even though Curtis was a great reinforcement, the whole team stepped up. We just wonder what would happen to Curtis offense when he wears his own shoes and his usual #55 shirt?

Speaking about offense..

Patricks second game was really weird at bat. He got hit by an pitch, intentionally walked twice (!!) and the third baseman managed to catch a foul pop up for an out that was just a feet from the Gothenburg dugout to wreck his perfect on base percentage at his fourth appearance at the plate.

Branden hit another home run during game one. We like that to be a habit when playing at Shark Park.

More to come when we summarize the games at the season 2013 page later on this week!

Leksand visiting

Gothenburg Sharks vs Leksand Lumberjacks 25:th of May 2013.

Gothenburg Sharks vs Leksand Lumberjacks 25:th of May 2013.

The Sharks will play a double header versus Leksand Lumberjacks on Saturday.

Leksand have already played nine games and the Sharks only six. Leksand is currently holding on to the fourth place, just half a game behind Sundbyberg Heat and 1½ behind second place held by the Karlskoga Bats.

Leksand played one game versus Akademin 12-6 (8) 21st of May. They swept Alby away on the  18:th of May 1-11 (7) and 3-7.

Leksands short stop/third base man Johan Höglund is batting .419 for the season after 34 total at bats. Their third base man and catcher Henrik Blomqvist is actually .428 for the season. He belongs to the Sundsvall organization but has 11 total at bats recorded for Leksand for the season. After them there is nothing abnormal in their hitting. Tyler Overstreet (.368) and Per Sjörs (.317) are both over .300.

Leksands by far weakest position seems to be the third base. The fielding percentage at that position is down to 0.765. That is something for the Sharks to attack! Leksands outfield have produced solid numbers for the 2013 season.

The game starts at 1300 as usual and the second game just a short break after game one. The official starting time for game two is at 1600.

Double losses in Karlskoga

Karlskoga was too tough for Gothenburg this weekend. The Sharks failed to take any of the two games to nine innings losing 11-1 and 16-5. We don’t have any more details of the games as of now, waiting for heatstat to get updated with the game details.

Gothenburg will have to consecutive home games the upcoming two Saturdays. Leksand this Saturday (25/5) and Stockholm (1/6).

Karlskoga away

The team will travel early tomorrow morning towards Karlskoga for a double header versus the Bats.

Karlskoga has four wins and two losses. The first loss versus Leksand 11-12 and the second was versus Sundbyberg where Karlskoga failed to get on the board losing 0-14 ending the game in the seventh inning.

Even though the Sharks haven’t really been on the toes this far the will come into the series with a win and they have been playing better and better each game.

The Bats usually have a good pitcher in Paul Waterman who usually goes deep in the innings. However in the last two game he didn’t pitch at all and his batting average is down to .100. Their import pitcher Shawn Hetherington has been doing very well this season. His ERA is 2,25 and opponents are batting .203 against him. He can only pitch six innings.

The Karlskoga Bats must enter the series as clear favorites, With the Sharks continuing to improve their defense and continue to have the whole team get on base, the Sharks will have a good chance of grabbing at least one game.

The following players will be travelling to Karlskoga tomorrow and give it all for the team colors!

Home opener on Saturday

Sharks vs Alby home opener

Sharks vs Alby home opener

Shark Park @ 1300 versus Alby Stars. The second game is officially scheduled to 1600, but will start after a short break after game one ended.

Alby and Gothenburg has had equally bad starts and are 0 and 2 for the season. Alby was swept by the Karlskoga Bats and Gothenburg by Stockholm.

Alby lost the first game of the season 10-0. They got on the board in the second game of the double header, which they lost 10-5. Karlskoga Bats took on Leksand Lumberjacks the past Saturday in a double header. They shared one win each. Game one ended 12-11 favor of Leksand and the second game ended 8-4 favor of the Bats.

The Sharks has allowed far more runs than the Stars. on the other hand we managed to score nine runs versus Stockholm, Alby managed to score five times versus the Bats.

Both Alby and Gothenburg faced tough opponents for the starting games. My guess would be that the double header played here in Gothenburg would echo for the rest of the season saying who would rank ahead of the other. A fair assumption is that will be a great deal of action in the games. Both teams are exited to get their first win.

Mark this Saturday for a visit to Shark Park! Instructions on how to add the game calendar to your mobile device is available at the Calendar.
